First Holy Communion—the reception of the Eucharist for the first time—is a pivotal moment in one's life! As Catholics, we firmly believe that the Eucharist is truly Jesus' Body and Blood. As such, we provide formation for students to help them prepare to receive so great a gift.

WHEN DO STUDENTS MAKE FIRST COMMUNION?

Children may receive Communion once they reach the age of reason and understand the mystery according to their capacity. This is normally around the age of seven.

If a child is age 7 to 17 and not baptized, they will prepare through RCIA adapted for children 

HOW LONG IS COMMUNION PREPARATION?

At St Monica, the sacramental preparation for families with children preparing for First Communion is a TWO YEAR profess. These are traditionally done in first and second grade.

WHEN ARE FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION CLASSES HELD?

Our First Communion classes meet on Wednsdays October-May from 6:30pm-7:40 pm.
