PADRE ALEJANDRO DEL BOSQUE
A priest serving God and His Church for 25 years
Padre Alejandro was born in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico on January 24, 1956 to Horacio and Virginia del Bosque both from Saltillo. He lost his father in December 1997. Padre Alejandro is the second of 5 children: Horacio (V2010), Alejandro, Raul, Myriam and Luz Elena. Padre Alejandro attended high school and college in Monterrey, graduating in 1976 as a Chemical Engineer. He joined the Legionaries of Christ as a novitiate in 1976 in Salamanca, Spain.
As a member of the Legionaries of Christ, he studied Philosophy at the Jesuits Gregorian University in Rome from 1979 to 1981. From there, he became a student of Theology at the Dominican St. Thomas University in Rome from 1981 through 1987. He then spent a two year internship from 1984 to 1986 in Bethesda, MD prior to his ordination.
Padre Alejandro was ordained as Deacon for the Legionaries of Christ at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Rome in June 29, 1987 by Cardinal Justin Regalli; shortly followed by his ordination as priest at the same church on December 24, 1987 by Cardinal Jerome Hammer, O.P.
As a newly ordained priest, Padre Alejandro served the Lord as chaplain of various Legionaries of Christ schools and as a Theology Professor at the University of Mexico in Mexico City from 1987 to 1995. Then from 1995 to 1998, he served the Lord in missionary work in some of the central states of Mexico, such as, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes, Michoacan and Zacatecas. Following his missionary work, he served as vice-principal of the Irish Institute in Monterrey, Mexico from 1998 to 2003.
Padre Alejandro arrived in the Archdiocese of San Antonio in January 2004, where his first assignment was serving the dual parishes of St. James and Sacred Heart Church in Gonzales, TX and St. Patrick in Waelder as Parochial Vicar. In July 2005, he was assigned as Parochial Vicar to Holy Spirit Church in San Antonio; one year later, he was assigned again as Parochial Vicar for St. Matthew Church in San Antonio.
From June 2007 to May 2010, Padre Alejandro served as Administrator for the three parishes of St. Joseph in Devine, Texas, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Bigfoot and St. Augustine in Moore. He was incardinated to the Archdiocese of San Antonio during Holy Week of 2009 by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller. Between 2008 to 2010, he worked on obtaining a Master’s Degree in Theology at the Regina Apostolorum Athenaeum of the Legionaries of Christ in Rome. Shortly after, he was finally assigned to his home parish of St. Monica in Converse in June 2010.
