Have you ever wondered how you can help someone come closer to Christ and His Church?

At St. Monica Catholic Church, the Christian Initiation Ministry, also known as OCIA, accompanies adults, teens, children, and families who are discerning baptism, full communion with the Catholic Church, Confirmation, and Eucharist. This ministry is more than a class. It is a journey of conversion, prayer, friendship, and parish accompaniment.

Every person who comes to OCIA brings a story. Some are seeking baptism. Some are returning to faith. Some are becoming Catholic after being formed in another Christian tradition. Others are families taking the next step in their walk with Christ.

They need more than information. They need witnesses.

They need parishioners who can welcome them, pray for them, walk with them, and share the joy of Catholic life.

There are many ways to assist the Christian Initiation Ministry, including serving as a sponsor/mentor, helping with hospitality, assisting with sessions, praying for catechumens and candidates, or supporting the team in other simple but meaningful ways.

You do not have to know everything about the faith to help. You simply need a willing heart, love for Christ, and a desire to accompany others.

St. Monica’s mission is to Invite, Connect, and Grow, and OCIA is one of the most beautiful ways this mission comes alive in our parish. Through this ministry, our parish becomes a place where seekers are welcomed, supported, and helped to encounter Jesus Christ and His Church.
